Two beautiful Eights: Invader and Defender

Wooden Boatworks in Greenport NY is a place where dreams come true, where the pans are always on the fire, ready to cook up new idea, it’s the birthplace of so many great boats. Founded by Donn and Linda Costanzo, and Donn’s brother Bruce Wahl. This yard has to be the mecca for wooden boat lovers in New York. When Oakcliff Sailing decided to expand their fleet with two Int. 8-Metres they obviously turned to Wooden Boatworks. Two stunningly beautiful Eights were built, first the 1931 Fife designed Invader was recreated followed by her sister Defender. The late naval architect and Fife expert Theo Rye was the consulting naval architect and under the watchful eyes of Donn two superb yachts were built.

Hull and decks were built in Alaska Yellow Cedar, covering boards, coamings and cabin in cherry, spars in Sitka spruce. What a huge joy and privilege is was to be part of these projects!
